How to Recreate the Marie Antoinette Blush Trend
Another day, another blush trend sweeping (pun fully intended) the internet. But this one feels different. Unlike boyfriend blush, sunset styles or ombré diffused hues, the Marie Antoinette blush trend centers on a soft, rosy flush placed high on the cheeks to create a romantic, lifted look.
Inspired by France’s last queen—and accidental influencer—the style embodies romance and opulence. It’s bold, feminine and perfectly in step with the statement blush looks dominating right now. At the same time, it channels the airy, playful spirit of the Rococo era, bringing a little fun back to makeup when we need it most.
Ahead, two celebrity makeup artists share how to create the modern version—and the best products to get the look.

What Is Marie Antoinette Blush?
It’s hard to imagine Marie Antoinette without her profusely flushed cheeks. Highly romantic, playful and sensual, it was the calling card of her makeup. Celebrity makeup artist Christian Briceno explains it best, noting that her blush was both youthful and indulgent, like skin after a glass of champagne.
Today’s look “channels that 18th century Versailles glamour but translates it through a modern, skin-first lens,” says Briceno. The rouge is placed high on the cheekbones as seen on the late queen. However, it’s softly diffused across the face to create a more natural appearance. And instead of overly powdered or opaque, it leans fresh and translucent.
How to Master the Marie Antoinette Blush Look
The vibrancy of this blush style comes down to three things: an even base, the right formula and strategic placement. Start by choosing a shade that flatters your skin tone and gives a natural, healthy flush. Babydoll pinks and candy pastels are classic choices, but rose, berry and red tones can be equally flattering.
Layering two blushes is the best way to recreate Marie Antoinette’s signature intensity. “A cream or balm formula helps anchor the color, while lightly layering a soft powder blush over it to set and amplify the depth,” says Briceno.
When it comes to placement, the goal is to lift the face and create a sense of youthful whimsy. While most modern techniques skip the smile method, celebrity makeup artist Dani Guinsberg says it’s ideal for this look. “Using a dome-shaped brush, apply a cream blush to the apples of the cheeks while smiling, then blend upwards,” she says.
To finish, Briceno suggests sweeping powder blush high on the outer apples and blending toward the temples. This final layer deepens the color and adds the soft, ethereal glow reminiscent of 18th-century beauty.
